TACAN or BMEWS Refuge building with Upper Camp in the background

Refuge buildings were provided at remote work locations such as the TACAN building and the BMEWS communications site. In case of severe storm and possible loss of the main buildings, staff could take refuge in these buildings to await rescue. Each refuge  building had its own independent heating system. Note the cables tying the building down to the rock.
