Sunset over Big Island Looking approximately North West from Upper Camp

The scenery and sunsets at Saglek were quite stark and spectacular. Being just south of the Actic Circle we were not exactly in the land of the midnight sun but, during Summer, there was a glow in the sky all night as the sun just dipped below the horizon.

The foreground buildings were known as the Polevault Buildings where the earlier Polevault Tropospheric Scatter communications equipment was situated. This equipment had been removed by 1969 when I arrived. Earlier photographs of Saglek include the large circular Polevault dish antennas in this area.
