Control Station, Patch Panels and Test Teletype Units |
It was at this station (the switchboard in the centre of the picture) we communicated up and down the communications link and controlled the telephone and teletype circuits.
All operational teletype traffic was encrypted and we were unable to read it. However, there was one newswire circuit that we could read.
To the left of the picture is the High Frequency patch panel where we could access and manage the raw signal that was transmitted and received from the site. In the centre is the telephone circuit patch panel where we could access the individual telephone lines decoded from the raw signal. In the background are racks of telephone equipment that performed the decoding and encoding. |
